A message from our Oregon State University hosts

We’re thrilled to welcome you to ScienceWriters2026 hosted by Oregon State University
Sept. 25-28 in Corvallis, Oregon. Nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley, OSU is
the state’s largest university and a national leader in marine and climate science, clean
energy, artificial intelligence and robotics, forestry, and food and agriculture.

Corvallis is one of the greenest small cities in the country. Our campus is just a short walk from a vibrant downtown along the Willamette River, where you’ll find independent
shops, restaurants, coffeehouses, breweries and wine bars serving food and drinks crafted from the fruits, vegetables, hops and grapes grown in the surrounding valley.

Corvallis is a short drive from Portland, the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains. Just beyond the Cascades lies Oregon’s high desert, home of OSU-Cascades in Bend. Portland, known for its culinary creativity, boasts world-renowned chefs, hundreds of food carts and the university’s Food Innovation Center. It’s also home to the world’s largest independent bookstore and the highest concentration of craft breweries in the country, many of which are connected to Oregon State’s fermentation science program.

The Cascade Mountains, with their dramatic 10,000-foot peaks, offer unmatched access to the outdoor recreation that defines Oregon and serve as a living laboratory for many of our research initiatives. Along the Oregon Coast, enjoy fresh seafood, spot migrating whales, explore Hatfield Marine Science Center or simply leave footprints in the sand.

Corvallis is conveniently located between airports in Portland and Eugene. Shuttle service connects Portland’s airport and Corvallis.

We look forward to sharing our university, our community and our state with you.
